Mammary ptosis, also referred to as drooping breasts, often occurs after pregnancy or significant weight loss. Breasts are emptied of their original volume, with the collapsed skin envelope giving the appearance of flat or drooping breasts.
Breast lift, or mastopexy, consists of lifting the breast, areola, and nipple to reshape the breast and obtain a beautiful shape while removing excess skin.
Because of the excess skin, three scars are necessary, forming an inverted “T”. One is located around the areola; a vertical scar is located under the areola; a horizontal scar is hidden beneath the breast.
